Nanoscale Fabrication and Characterization Core
The Nanoscale Fabrication and Characterization Core provides advanced tools for nanoscale patterning, imaging, and functional characterization of materials and devices. The facility supports interdisciplinary research spanning chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering, with capabilities ranging from nanometer-scale lithography to correlated structural and electrochemical measurements.
Key Instruments & Capabilities
Thermal Scanning Probe Lithography (t-SPL)
NanoFrazor Explore (Heidelberg Instruments)
Enables direct-write nanoscale patterning using a heated AFM tip with sub-10 nm lateral precision, as well as rapid, mask-less laser-based patterning for micron-scale features. This dual-mode capability allows seamless integration of nano- and micro-scale device architectures.
Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
NX12 (Park Systems)
High-resolution surface characterization with quantitative topography, phase, and mechanical mapping, supporting both fabricated nanostructures and functional materials.
Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM)
NX12 (Park Systems)
Provides quantitative, spatially resolved electrochemical measurements of interfacial reactivity, mass transport, and catalytic activity with micrometer- to nanometer-scale resolution.
CLocK Microscopy (Calcite-Assisted Localization and Kinetics)
An optical super-resolution approach that enables obtaining the morphology and orientation of single nanoparticlesduring dynamic interfacial processes such as electrochemical reactions.
