Infrared Scanning and Imaging Microscopy

Overview of Services

Infrared Scanning and Imaging using the LUMOS II, a FTIR Microscope from Bruker Corp.

Chemical imaging micro-spectroscopy enables visualization & chemical characterization of samples on a microscopic level by mapping the distribution of chemical components based on their spectral signatures. The LUMOS II is equipped with both a focal plane array (FPA) and mercury cadmium telluride detectors. It also has a retractable ATR germanium crystal that is controlled by a high-precision piezo-electrical motors integrated into the lens, allowing precise positioning of the crystal for visual and spectroscopic analyses.

Students and facutly who are trained on the instrument are able to use it for their research provided they either bring liquid nitrogen to cool the detector or pay for it.
