Chemistry Materials Characterization

Overview of Services

About us
The Shell Core is a shared analytical instrumentation facility supporting advanced research in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, materials science, environmental analysis, and interdisciplinary fields. It provides centralized access to state-of-the-art tools for precise chemical characterization, structural elucidation, and high-quality data generation—including mass spectrometry, chromatography, spectroscopy, and high-resolution NMR for molecular structure determination. Typically funded through a combination of institutional support (e.g., university/department subsidies), user fees for services, and external grants to ensure sustainability and accessibility for researchers.

Services
We offer open-access and expert-assisted analysis via mass spectrometry (identification, quantification, structural elucidation), liquid/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, various spectroscopy techniques (FT-IR, fluorescence, UV-Vis-NIR, FT-NIR), and high-resolution NMR (1D/2D multinuclear experiments, e.g., ¹H, ¹³C, ¹⁹F, X-nuclei observation, gradient-enhanced 2D like COSY, HSQC, HMBC). Additional support includes method development, sample preparation guidance, data interpretation, and user training.
