Mississippi State University’s Athlete Engineering Institute advances human performance through translational, interdisciplinary research and service at the intersection of biomechanics, wearable technology, data science, and human factors. Developed to meet the growing demand for actionable performance analytics, Athlete Engineering aligns engineering, kinesiology, sociology, and psychology researchers with athletic practitioners (strength and conditioning, athletic training, and sports nutrition) to improve safety, readiness, and performance across four human athlete personas: Sports, Tactical, Industrial, and At-Risk. Core services include biomechanical assessment using in-lab marker-based motion capture and portable markerless motion capture; gait and movement analysis using our instrumented GRAIL treadmill within a motion-capture space; human factors evaluation; and applied analytics support, including Power BI dashboards that enable rapid, decision-grade insights.
