The newly established BioWorkshop is housed in the new state-of-the-art A. James Clark Hall. The core facility offers access to an array of advanced scientific instruments covering biological imaging, cellular and biochemical analysis, biomaterial characterization, and histology. Bioimaging instruments include a FLIM&FCS-capable laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM), a fully-automated wide-field fluorescence microscope, an atomic force microscope for biological sample (BioAFM), a benchtop scanning and transmission electron microscope (SEM & TEM), and a microCT for fixed tissue and live animal imaging. Cellular and Biochemical Analysis tools include an imaging flow cytometer, a flow cytometer analyzer, gel permeation Chromatography (GPC), UHPLC, qPCR, a lyophilizer, an advanced multi-mode plate reader with incubation system, and a gel imager. Biomaterial characterization tools consists of FT-IR, rheometer, dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), particle sizer and zeta-potential analyzer (DLS), BIACOR surface plasmon resonance (SPR) system, and a circular dichroism spectrometer. Additionally, a full histology suite is also available. The facility is staffed by full-time personnel, and offers regular training and maintenance, online scheduling and billing, and 24/7 access for users from on and off campus. More information is available on the BioWorkshop website.
