Overview of Services

The mission of the Translational Research Laboratory (TRL) Core is to facilitate, implement, and support the needs of basic science researchers, clinical researchers, population researchers and clinical science collaborations. Interactions between basic scientists and clinicians are fostered to ensure the inclusion of scientifically sound correlative studies in clinical trials, and also to enable and assist research studies using clinical samples from patients enrolled in clinical trials. Emphasis is placed on the pursuit of institutional collaborations, allowing TRL and other Core laboratories to work closely together.

The following services will be offered:

• Bio-specimen repository of clinical and population research protocol samples
• Receiving, processing and storing human samples
• Database management system to centralize information
• Creation of cell lines from tumor
• Circulating tumor cell (CTC) and other rare events studies
• CTC enumeration, enrichment
• Single CTC isolation, whole genome amplification from single cell for genetic characterization
• Pure population collection from Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples, DNA preparation for genetic characterization
• Rare living cell sorting for RNAseq analysis
• Molecular biology – based translational studies
• Cell proliferation assay and drug cytotoxicity analysis
• DNA and RNA isolation and quantification
• Design and optimization of real-time PCR analysis
• Protein isolation, western blot, and multiplex ELISA assay
• Other molecular biology assays.
