Overview of Services

 

Through a central administrative office and satellite processing facilities, this department provides the following services:

  1. Processing of cleaned and sterilized laboratory materials, such as glass, plastics and instruments, Routine procedures allow collection, washing, drying, sterilization by steam autoclaving or high-temperature heating, and return of materials within 24 hours. Special techniques include RNase-free preparations, acid washing and siliconization of labware.
  2. Preparation and plating of agar media
  3. Endotoxin screening
  4. CO2 incubator routine cleaning
  5. Water bath cleaning
  6. Pipettor evaluation and calibration, performed monthly.

 

Services provided free of charge include the maintenance and distribution of dry ice inventories and sterilization of lab-prepared media and other materials. Ultrapure water is also available in all facilities. Pelleted dry ice is available in gray bins outside all facilities on all floors in the Rockefeller Research Labs, on all floors in the Zuckerman Research Building, and on floors 7, 9 and 10 in the Schwartz Building.
