MR Research Facility

About the MR Core

Wayne State University (WSU) Magnetic Resonance Research Facility (MRRF) is committed to providing state-of-the-art revolutionary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) methods to better understand human physiology, early detection of diseases, and monitoring of treatments in preclinical and clinical subjects. MRRF is equipped with a 3T human MRI (Siemens Cima.X) and a 7T preclinical small animal MRI scanner (Bruker BioSpec AV4) that are ideally suited for the whole body, neuroimaging, molecular and animal imaging with seamlessly integrated coil elements with up to 32 RF channels to use simultaneously. Currently, the MR center is focusing on the usage of MR techniques in patients with aging, breast cancer, diabetic retinopathy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, trauma, tumors, and fetal imaging to name a few. MRRF promotes its novel methods and developments to the WSU scientific community and supports the implementation of MR methods through education, assistance in experimental design, data collection and analysis. The MR center has consistently attracted MR visionaries and scientists who have provided excellent guidance to numerous graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees and the training of research-oriented residents and faculty alike besides securing more than $70M funding over 15 years. To better serve the WSU research community, MRRF has installed a new generation state-of-the-art 3T research scanner, the Cima.X from Siemens, which is partially funded by an NIH S10 grant. The new scanner will allow us to compete at the forefront of neuroscience research and continue to be a leader in the field with respect to MRI research in the next 15 years or so.
